Artificial intelligence has uncovered a hidden detail in a Raphael painting, suggesting that St Joseph’s face in the Madonna della Rosa was likely not painted by Raphael himself. The AI, which has a 98 percent accuracy level in identifying Raphael paintings, revealed that while the Madonna, Child, and St John were likely Raphael’s work, St Joseph’s face appeared to be the creation of another artist, possibly Raphael’s pupil Giulio Romano.
